Tenzing Norgay

The Unstoppable Tenzing Norgay, a Nepali-Indian Sherpa mountaineer, born in 1914. Though Norgay’s exact date of birth is unknown, he knew it was sometime in May and deemed his birthday to be on May 29th after being one of the first two people (Sir Edmund Hillary being the other) known to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world at 29,029 feet, on the same day in 1953. It was Norgay’s 39th birthday.⠀

A pinnacle accomplishment physically, emotionally, and historically, Norgay exemplifies what it means to be truly unstoppable as he faced and overcame challenge after challenge throughout the journey. It was the ninth British expedition to attempt scaling the mountain in a diligent effort to reach the peak. And, despite the failed pursuits of those that came before him (including a first attempt he made in 1935 accompanying Eric Shipton), Norgay was clear about the mission and determined to complete it, no matter what.⠀
