Frida Kahlo

This Mexican painter shows startups how innovation is done!

Frida Kahlo (1907–1954), whose name you probably already know, but whose life and work is always worth examining in greater depth, was plagued by health issues all her life. She first survived a debilitating childhood case of polio, and then suffered severe injury in a bus accident at the age of 18. This crushed her dreams of attending medical school, but opened up the world of art.

The style of Kahlo's paintings was inspired by her Mexican heritage, and the content explored themes of identity, gender, and race. She died too young at the age of 47, but her works have become famous the world over.

Kahlo is a premier example of fresh, fearless innovation that any startup would do well to adopt.
